Item 2066

We are pleased to announce the release of our 2066 top with Heatsealed Heater/Defroster Glass Window to fit 2001-On VW Cabrio/Golf IV convertibles.

Our 2066 top is made following the original design with no deck seams and no binding.

Our 2066 top is made with metal brackets mounted to the glass, which attach to window "frame hinge" arms that guide the glass when the top is raised and lowered.
We have improved the design of our metal brackets by making the base 50% wider than the brackets used by VW in OE Tops, to provide a stronger bond of the bracket to the glass. VW has experienced numerous warranty claims as a result of the failures in the bond of the bracket to the glass. When the adhesive bond fails this causes the brackets to separate from the glass, and as a result the glass does not fold down properly when the top is lowered, causing the glass to break.

Warranty claims have been so severe that VW has been forced to replace the entire top, headliner, pad and top frame assembly on many models. In some instances VW has even used the 1995-2000 style top and top frame assembly in which the glass is held in place by a large rubber weatherseal.

We offer our 2066 top made in original style TY Twill Grain Vinyl as well as original A5 German Cloth, SG Sun-Fast "G" Cloth, TW Twillfast Cloth and our SF Sun-Fast Cloth.
1997-On Jaguar XK8, XKR

We are pleased to introduce our 2423C top to fit 1997-On Jaguar XK8 and XKR convertibles.

Our 2423C top is made to offer the same fit and appearance as OE Jaguar XK8 and XKR tops. Our 2423C tops are made with original style matching cloth binding, rainguards above the binding, topstitched deck seams and an original style extrusion at the rear which fits into a channel below the belt molding.
Our 2423C top is designed to fit with the original heater defroster glass supplied by the factory. Trim shops however, will have to arrange for a glass company to remove the glass from the factory top and reinstall this in our 2423C top due to Jaguar’s use of a heavy mastic that dries hard to seal the glass in place.

Jaguar has used a variety of toppings and colors for OE XK8 and XKR tops since the introduction of this convertible in 1997, including Haartz Twillfast Cloth and most recently R & S (Haartz) A5 German Cloth. We will be stocking these tops in the most popular black and tan shades of the original toppings, but will offer these tops in blue and other colors as well on a special order basis. We can also make 2423C tops in our Sun-Fast "G" Cloth with Twill weave.

We offer a 3-Year pro-rated Warranty for our 2423C tops made in Cloth toppings.

 Mazda equips most 1999 - On Miatas with a windblocker behind the seats. Our 2960 and 2961 No Zipper Miata tops clear the windblocker in either position.
When the windblocker is folded down our Zipper Glass Window top can bump it slightly when the top is lowered or raised. Always have the windblocker in the Up position when lowering or raising our 2962 or 2963 Zipper Glass Window tops.
>Caution: We have received reports from Trim Shops that pinching, abrasion damage, cuts and holes can occur in factory 1999 - On Miata tops caused by the top frame and components.
Robbins supplies a pair of molded Bow End Caps to install over the ends of the #2 bows.These are covered in cloth by the factory, but the cloth covering quickly wears away to expose sharp metal bow ends which will cut holes in tops above the door glass.
These bow end caps install quickly using contact cement to protect our tops, and no warranty will be issued for holes or cuts in 1999 - On Miata tops caused by the #2 bow ends.
Robbins cannot be held responsible for any damage to our 2960, 2961, 2962 or 2963 tops caused by the problems described above.
 
1999-On Mazda Miata Top Boots, Tonneau Covers and Accessories
 
These items are very similar to top boots and tonneau covers we have shipped in the past for 1990-97 Miatas, but there are some key differences:
 
a)    Rear Fasteners: Both top boots and tonneau covers now use oversize Nickel finish durable fasteners to attach to factory studs. (These replace the chrome Tenax fasteners used on 1990-97 Miatas.)
 
b) Our top boots and tonneau covers are cut to accommodate Higher folded down stack height of 1999 - On Miata tops with heater/defogger glass window:

c) Side Cables: Our Cables 2960 are made with metal lug ends. Mazda OE Side Cables are made with a plastic end that is easily damaged when rivets are drilled out to remove side cables to replace 1999 - On MX-5 Miata Tops.
 
 
Robbins Improved 1999 - On MX-5 Miata Top Design
 
We have developed a different design than Mazda for our 1999 MX-5 Miata top in order to deliver the quality and appearance that Miata owners have come to expect from Robbins.
 
Robbins heatseals glass into our 1999 ö On MX-5Ê Miata Tops, without using any unattractive black plastic bezel.
 
In order to heatseal glass into our 1999 - On Miata tops we have had to develop a unique process for which we have applied for a U.S. Patent.
 
Robbins has also added additional reinforcements, and a greatly improved cable sleeve design to reduce wind noise and enable the top to fit tighter against the weatherseals.
 
Our 2962 and 2963 Zipper Window Tops can be loweredwithout unzipping the Zipper. The Heater/Defogger glass window can be lowered when the top is up (make certain however defogger switch is in the "off" position when the top is raised and the glass is lowered).
 
Our 2962 and 2963 Tops are available in RC Cabrio Vinyl, EC Eurotopping Cabrio Grain Vinyl or Sun-Fast Cloth Toppings.
 
Mazda also added a heater/defogger glass window to replace the plastic window used in earlier models.
The top frame has changed as well.(material which wraps around the metal bow and is attached to the top), but moves freely as the top is raised and lowered. There is in fact only one panel which attaches to the number two bow (see top frame diagrams on pages 8 and 9 of our Catalog).
Because of frame changes, our 1990 - 97 tops will not fit 1999 ö On Miata models (and our 1999 - On Miata tops will not fit earlier models).
In factory tops the glass is installed in a recessed panel using an unattractive black plastic bezel affixed on the outside of the glass, using adhesives to bond the glass to the PVC vinyl topping.
One result of the use of this recessed panel is that the rear valance above the glass tends to curl up in factory tops, and wrinkles can occur in the quarters.
We have received reports from owners and trim shops, and observed 1999 - On MX-5 Miatas in our plant, that in extreme cases top frames can cause tears and holes to occur in 1999 MX-5 Miata tops.
Mazda changed the wiring harness which provides power to the heater/defroster grid as well.
There is also no zipper in factory MX-5 Miata tops, which has disappointed buyers, who have owned 1990-97 MX-5 Miata convertibles and liked to drive with the rear window lowered for ventilation when the top is up.
